Roll Keeper Privacy Policy

How Roll Keeper handles photos, metadata, local archive data, and purchases for scanned film roll organization.

Last updated: 2026-05-10

1. Overview

Roll Keeper is a local-first iOS app for organizing scanned film rolls from photos already stored in Apple Photos. Your archive stays on your device, and the app accesses your photo library only for features you choose to use.

2. Data Stored by the App

Roll Keeper does not require accounts, show ads, use third-party analytics SDKs, track you across apps or websites, or sell personal data. The information needed to display and manage your film roll archive is stored locally on your device.

  • Archive records such as roll titles, film stock, camera, lens, notes, dates, and locations are saved locally.
  • Selected Apple Photos identifiers may be saved locally so Roll Keeper can reconnect archive records with the photos you chose.
  • Selected photo copies may be saved in local app storage for archive display, previews, sharing, and restoring archive items if the original Photos asset is no longer available.
  • Roll Keeper does not upload your original photos, local photo copies, or local archive database as part of its app features.

3. Photos Access

Roll Keeper uses Apple PhotoKit after you grant Photos permission in iOS. This access lets the app display selected images, read photo metadata, help detect scanned film rolls, and attach chosen photos to archive records.

  • If you choose to sync metadata, the app may update shooting date, location, camera, lens, and film-related EXIF metadata on selected Photos assets or save new Photos copies containing that metadata.
  • If you choose to save an exported contact sheet, the app may write the generated image back to Apple Photos.
  • By default, Roll Keeper keeps your original Photos assets in place. If you explicitly choose to clear originals after saving EXIF copies, the app first saves new copies and then asks Photos to remove the original selected assets.

4. Sharing and Exports

When you share photos or exported contact sheets, the files are handed to the destination you choose through the iOS share sheet. Roll Keeper does not route those files through servers.

5. Purchases

Roll Keeper may offer a one-time lifetime unlock through Apple in-app purchase. Apple handles payment details, purchase history, receipts, and refunds. Roll Keeper checks StoreKit entitlement status only to unlock paid features in the app.

6. Third-Party Services

Roll Keeper does not include third-party advertising SDKs or third-party analytics SDKs. Apple Photos, iCloud Photos, and StoreKit may process information under Apple’s policies and your device settings.

7. Retention and Deletion

Your archive data and local photo copies stay on your device until you delete records in Roll Keeper, resolve missing photo references by deleting app copies, or remove the app from your device. If you choose to clear original Photos assets after saving EXIF copies, that deletion is handled through Apple Photos. Roll Keeper does not provide a cloud account or hosted archive for you to delete separately.

8. Your Choices

You can manage or revoke Photos permission in iOS Settings, delete roll records inside the app, remove local app data by deleting the app, and manage purchases through your Apple ID.

9. Children

Roll Keeper is not directed to children. The app does not create accounts or operate a child-directed data collection service.

10. Changes

This policy may be updated when the app changes or when legal, platform, or operational requirements change. The latest version will be posted on this page with the updated date.
