What I Saw During the Third Snow

This repost records Huainan after its third heavy snowfall, from harder commutes and snow-covered taxis to fewer breakfast stalls, rising vegetable prices, and difficult neighborhood roads.

This post was extracted from my early NetEase Blog archive. NetEase Blog is no longer operating, but these old words still feel interesting enough to move over mostly as they were. This is mainly for the record, and because of age the writing, images, and links may be rough.

This post was originally published on February 2, 2008. I was about 19 years old then and was still in high school.

Yilu Shang's What I Saw During the Third Snow

Huainan's third snow became heaviest late last night, and this morning there was still some light snow falling. But the scene was no longer the same.

First, more people walking to and from work. Many taxis that had not gone out had to be dug out of the snow before they could get on the road.

Second, there were obviously fewer breakfast sellers in the morning. On Liugongsi Road there were only two left, one stall on each side of the road.

Third, vegetable prices went up. There were obviously fewer vendors in the market, and people crowded into the supermarkets. Suguo and RT-Mart were packed shoulder to shoulder.

Fourth, roads inside residential compounds were also difficult to walk on. Compared with the last snow, this one was deeper, and ordinary boots were no longer useful.

I hope this snow can stop. Snow has brought inconvenience, but children are very excited. Many children are building snowmen in the snow.

Let us look at some photos of Huainan's road conditions.
