This article was extracted from my early NetEase blog. NetEase Blog is no longer operating, but looking back, these words are still quite interesting, so I decided to move them over as intact as possible. This is mainly kept as a record; after all these years, the quality of the text, images, and links may all have been affected.
This article was originally published on September 16, 2008. I was about 19 years old at the time and was in college.
After roaming around online all day, I accidentally discovered that people in Malaysia can also speak Chinese!
After talking with a few Malaysian internet friends, I learned that in Malaysia you can see Chinese people in every street and alley. Every Chinese person there is basically a language genius. Almost everyone can speak Guoyu (Mandarin), Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka, Teochew… Malay, and also English. But there is one thing: they are not fully fluent in any one language. They are all half-and-half, so you have to mix several languages together when speaking, but everyone can still understand what the other person means.
I recommend a Malaysian blog I know: http://littlehaohao.blogspot.com/
Writing about Finland, life, and code. The next post goes straight to your inbox, without the noise.
