This post was extracted from my early NetEase blog. NetEase Blog is no longer operating, but looking back, these words are still quite interesting, so I decided to move them over as intact as possible. It is mainly kept as a record; after all, it is from a long time ago, so the quality of the writing, images, and links may all be affected.

This post was originally published on September 16, 2010. I was about 21 years old at the time and was studying in college.

Taking on the website redesign for the Computer Application Department of Shanghai Technical Institute of Electronics & Information

Project description

Website changes should not be limited only to replacing navigation and project items. They should fully consider the dynamics of the college department and the development direction of the department website, then combine those with the existing website system for replanning. As a department website, the website itself must not only be professional and beautiful, but also easy to manage and redevelop. At the same time, the redesign should be combined with the current realities of the college and fully integrate the department website with the college group-site system.

The website redesign project mainly includes the following content:

  1. Object-oriented analysis: consider the needs and aesthetic requirements of website users and administrators to determine the main style and color scheme of the website.

  2. Fully communicate with the client to determine the main website plan (including webpage style, navigation, functional requirements, languages used, etc.).

  3. Based on the plan confirmed by the client, produce mockups of the homepage and subpages, along with explanations of the use and effects of each function (including administrator functions such as search and statistics).

  4. Communicate and negotiate with the client about the established plan and functions, and finally determine the overall direction and implementation method for the website redesign, comprehensively defining the entire redesign process and effective operating mechanism.

  5. On the basis of the above work, formulate a detailed website structure plan, content positioning, and languages used, then write the website redesign proposal on that basis.

  6. Communicate effectively with the client about the specific implementation plan and determine every concrete detail of the website redesign.

  7. According to the website redesign implementation plan, integrate and organize personnel from each department, effectively allocate and integrate resources, and fully develop and build the redesign project.

  8. Test the functionality and operating performance of the completed project after development and integration. Through testing, correct possible deviations that occurred during development. The revised website will then be migrated into the actual operating environment and continue integration testing until the website is fully opened and released.

  9. Conduct user satisfaction surveys for the redesigned website, promptly revise and correct unreasonable or insufficient parts of the new website, and ensure that the website meets all target-user needs to the greatest extent.
